I like being an astronaut because I love to fly, the work is super interesting and it’s fun!

Unexpected crush on Don Pettit is unexpected.
O…kay…

Welcome to Rusty’s Book Club! Tonight the topic is The Possessed, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
I’ve mentioned that I saw sign for a restaurant called “Rusty’s” in Baltimore and thought that I would totally go to a restaurant run by him, right?

Some lovely photos of the Challenger crew from Retro Space Images.
(Also, I laughed at the “Irish I Had A Schlitz” sign in the second photo. It was so unexpected.)
These are too cute, especially the apple. I wonder what that sign on the wall with “IT!” in red letters said?

When you watch them work through the malfunctions they work through you get very comfortable that they know what they’re doing. One time when we were in the motion base simulator, not on this mission but before, the lights went out for the visual for the landing. It was not a malfunction, it was just something happened. The commander called down and said, ‘Aren’t the lights out?’ And they said, ‘I think so, we’ll get back to you on that.’ The conversation went on for about two or three minutes and it turns out that they had mistakenly turned the lights out on the visuals. The thing you didn’t realize was he made a perfect landing without any lights.
Heck yeah.

Soyuz TM-25 Crew: Tsibliyev Vasili Vasiliyevich, Ewald Reinhold, Lazutkin Aleksandr Ivanovich
Yeah
We are wild and crazy guys!
What do you know, I guess some cosmonauts are comfortable with smiling in prelaunch photographs.

I’ve seen this picture. You’ve seen this picture. Everyone has seen this picture. This picture was the last picture in the very last chapter of my 7th grade American history textbook, which made me intensely curious about who these seven people were and what they had done that was important enough to be on the last page of the textbook. (And we all know how I ended up…)
But I have never seen the footage that these screenshots are from of the crew preparing to take the picture anywhere except in a video on YouTube uploaded by a moon landing conspiracist. And I just… how? Why? Why do conspiracy theorists always have the best footage and pictures?

I just have to reblog this every time I see it ;-;
Can you say “adorkable”?
Agreed.

Frisbee attack!
That takes a lot of skill, throwing three at once.
Of course, Rusty would be the perfect ninja because he look so harmless. Nobody would suspect a thing…

Looking endearingly nerdy at the STS-41-C crew breakfast, prior to launch. (I think one of the reasons I like Scobee and consider him my Space Dad is that he was nerdy, actually.)
I think it’s kind of cute that the NASA Image Archive caption points out: “Notice the cake on the table in front of them is decorated with the mission patch and the names of the crew.”
