On this day in 1966, the prime crew of Gemini 9 was killed when their plane crashed in St. Louis, MO, at the McDonnell-Douglas plant which housed their spacecraft. Elliot See was slated to command the Gemini 9 mission, and Charlie Bassett was assigned as the pilot.
