Who's The Dummy?
(Erin and I are looking at the Hubble Servicing Mission 4 display at the Beyond Planet Earth exhibit.)
Me: "I wonder which one of them he is?"
Erin: "What do you mean?"
Me: "I wonder which one of the astronauts the dummy is supposed to be? I mean, is it Mike Massimino, or is it the other one--"
Erin: "-- yeah, Mike Good?"
Me: "Or is it John Grunsfeld?"
Erin: "Who was the commander on STS-125?"
Me: "Scott Altman. Why?"
Erin: "Don't red stripes mean it's the commander?"
Me: "Erin, space shuttle commanders don't spacewalk!" *pretends to slap*
Erin: "Oh, right, I was thinking of Apollo."
Everybody else in the exhibit, mentally: "What are those little freaks going on about?"

Just Too Coincidental...
(Erin and I were in the Hall of Reptiles, waiting to enter the Beyond Planet Earth exhibition.)
Erin (pointing to capsule model outside exhibit): "Is that an Orion?"
Me: "I can't tell. It's either an Orion or a Dragon. I can't see the solar panels from here."
(I try to move to get a better view)
Me: "Still can't see! Is that an Orion or a Dragon?"
Erin: (Points to Komodo Dragon display) "Well, we know THAT's a Dragon."

Daring and courage? I hope you don’t need any daring and courage because I don’t...

I respectfully disagree, sir. You have it in spades.

AMNH December 2011, Part 4
So, after exchanging gifts, we went to get special tickets for Beyond Planet Earth, because it was timed-entry. It turned out the next available entry was an hour away, which was okay with us, because we needed to have lunch.
The Museum was PACKED that day. I mean PACKED. There were no empty seats or tables whatsoever at the museum cafeteria, so we sat down on the floor and ate, like a lot of...

Dallas?
(The following conversation occurred while Erin and I were waiting in line to buy tickets at the American Museum of Natural History on Thursday, as described in the last post.)
Me (to man with STS-41-G patch on his messenger bag): "Nice patch! Where'd you get that?"
Guy: "Oh, this? I got it years ago at NASA."
Me: "Which center?"
Guy: "Oh, the one in... Dallas?"
Erin: "Houston?"
Guy: "Right, Houston."
Me: "The Johnson Space Center."
Guy: "Right. They said it was a special one, but I don't remember why."
Me: "That's STS-41-G. It was Sally Ride's second flight--"
Erin: "--and John McBride's first--"
Me: "--and the first mission with two women--"
Erin: "--and the first time an American woman spacewalked--"
Me: "--and it was in the IMAX film 'The Dream is Alive'!"
Guy: "Wow, I didn't know all that. Thanks for telling me."
Everybody else in line (mentally): "Weirdos."

AMNH December 2011, Part 1
Both Erin and I really wanted to see the exhibit Beyond Planet Earth: The Future of Space Exploration at the American Museum of Natural History, so we made plans to meet at noon on Thursday after I finished getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist.
Last year, we had a great time at the Race to the End of the Earth special exhibit, and since this exhibit was about space, we hoped this visit would...
